WELCOME TO THE WEB MUSEUM

"TAVIK FRANTIŠEK ŠIMON"

We started this website because we are impressed by the works of art created by the Czech painter and graphic-artist Frantisek Šimon, who gave himself  the artistic name Tavik František Šimon and is worldwide known as T. F. Šimon.
Tavik is the family name of his mother.
T.F. Šimon ranks among the greatest artists of the first half of the 20th century. That he is also one of the best graphic artists of the world is well-known to his many admirers since the early days of the last century, especially in Czechia, USA, France, Slovakia.
A catalogue of the paintings by the artist T.F.Šimon or a comprehensive biography have never been made, unfortunately. During his life the artist was a modest man, and afterwards he was neglected. Because most of the information about the artist available in archives (correspondences/letters) and in books is written in the Czech language, it is impossible for us, non-Czechs, to publish a comprehensive biography about him. We hope that soon an art-historian familiar with the Czech language will have enough courage and will write a well deserved biography. In case you have any information about the artist that could be interesting to add on this website, please inform us. We would appreciate it.

For the time being there is this website. Collected are photographs of and information about artworks from books, catalogues, magazines, newspapers, letters, original works of art, etc. This all has been published, if possible, on the website. Pages in German, French and Czech, all with different pictures. We also present you the original Catalogue Raisonné  (Seznam Grafickych Praci) of the Graphic-Art of T.F.Šimon, compiled by Arthur Novak in 1937. This Catalogue-Raisonné has been translated  into the English language by the team of this website. Recently we published a new page with miniature images of the Graphics according to the Catalogue Raisonné and a page about the artist Van Gogh.
Regularly we add new information and images on the different pages.

Many thanks for your visit
